What’s Holding you Back from your Dream Life?

Reading time: minute(s)

If you aren’t living your dream life, there’s something holding you back. Identifying that roadblock will make it possible for you to move past it and achieve the lifestyle you’ve always wanted.

As I have met business owners and network marketers across the country, I have learned that most of us aren’t in this business solely for the money.

Of course, the ability to earn more is a motivating factor, but most of us pursue this kind of career so we can spend more time with family, have greater freedom of time and money or have opportunities to participate in hobbies. I call these things our “whys,” as they are the reason we do what we do.

Whatever your “why” is, identifying what is holding you back and then finding ways to move past it will make it possible for you to make that “why” a reality and live your dream life.

I discovered early on in my life that I wanted to truly live an enriched life where I could inspire others and help them prosper at the same time.  These three things I discuss below are what I had to work on to get to living my dream life. Can you relate?

Lack of Passion

The ability to do what you love isn’t just a convenience; it’s the key to better and more efficient work. When you do something you are passionate about, you naturally have more energy, greater vision and more creativity and are more invested in the outcome of individual projects and your business.

If you’re just starting a career as a network marketer or just launching your home-based business, you are in the perfect situation to make sure you are doing what you are passionate about. Before you dive in, make adjustments to your plan, the businesses you are working with or the services you plan to provide to make sure you will get to do what you love.

On the other hand, if you are years into your career and have found you are lacking passion, it might be time for a change. Change the way you do things, start working with a new company or branch out and take on something new, so you can do what you love and bring renewed passion and drive to your business.

Overwhelming Fear

Fear can have a lot of power over us if we let it. It can prevent us from doing our best work, keep us from taking advantage of opportunities and even make us give up when the going gets tough. We all fear different things, and chances are that at some point in your career you’ve already faced some kind of fear.

The best way to overcome fear is to understand what you are afraid of and then face it. Try to identify what scares you about running your own business and then understand why. Consider what would happen if your fears became a reality, and then think about how you would deal with that so you can realize that your fears aren’t as paralyzing as they may seem.

Another great way to overcome fear is to be prepared. Put safeguards, like a financial plan, a strategic business plan, efficient processes and systems, and a crisis plan, in place so you will be prepared and have peace of mind.

Putting too Much Weight on Others’ Opinions

Another common hurdle is putting too much weight on others’ opinions. As you build a business or network marketing career, it’s so easy to get caught up in what you think others think about you. There are two major issues with this.

First, although we may assume we know what others are thinking, we don’t. You may think your friends, family or even fellow professionals think a certain way about you and your business, but in reality, you don’t know exactly what they think.

Secondly, it doesn’t matter what these people think. What matters is that you are happy with your life, business pursuits and the lifestyle you are achieving. You are the only person who knows what will make you happy, and you are the only one who knows what you need to do to make that happen. Go with your gut instincts, live the life you want and run your business the way you know is best, regardless of others’ opinions.

Don’t let these, or other challenges, hold you back from living your dream life. I know from first-hand experience, as a business owner and a business coach, that overcoming the things that hold you back leads to the ability to live your dream life, whatever that may be to you.
