Fear of . . .
Most of us have fears of some kind.
And these fears can hold us back and limit us from doing what we have the potential and capability of doing.
“Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears.” – Les Brown, Author and Motivational Speaker
This past weekend my husband (a former military pilot) arranged for us to do a sightseeing trip over Ottawa in a 1939 WACO Biplane. OMG! Is it safe? What if the engine fails? My anxiety level started to go through the roof.
Okay I have flown a lot in my life, throughout North America and overseas. Big airplanes with lots of engines. I have even flown in military aircraft like the Hercules and in helicopters.
I always felt safe.
But this flight had me shaking – antique aircraft, open cockpit, wind in my face, single engine, 1939 technology, a lack of safety features, a senior aged pilot, his health . . . and so on.
My mind was racing!
Even the safety briefing and the indemnity agreement had me wondering if this was a sane thing to do.
Geez – I was talking myself out of this one. All the negative things that could happen were going through my mind.
But I overcame my fear and went through with it.
As soon as we got into the cockpit, all my anxiety was gone. What a wonderful time I had, enjoying the sightseeing and experiencing what it was like to fly, over 70 years ago!
Life is all about overcoming our fears, whether it is in business or in our personal life. And we overcome the fear by taking action.
“Everything you want is on the other side of fear.” – Jack Canfield, Author and Motivational Speaker
Vince Poscente, Olympian, best-selling author and friend, always said that when he was at the top of the hill ready to commence a speed ski race, his fear was off the clock, but once he was out the gate, his fear was gone.
And that is how I address my fears, by taking action.
Once I was in that biplane, my fear was gone, even when that darn pilot did those steep turns!
So overcome your fears by taking action today! You will be glad you did.
