Why I wrote my book – CREATING FREEDOM –“What you need to know to be successful in network marketing”
Have you ever wanted to write a book? I have and I did!
Did you know that according to a recent survey, 81 percent of Americans (that is approximately 258 million people) feel they have a book in them — and that they should write it. That percentage number is probably applicable to Canadians too. Yet according to Google, today there are only 130 million books worldwide. So many people want to write, but it doesn’t mean it happens.
Why write a book at all? When you write a book you have to have a reason for doing it. Maybe you like telling a story, or explaining history, or providing motivation, or you want to entertain, or you simply love to write. Whatever the reason, books serve a purpose for all, or for some. They provide insight into something we need, whether it is entertainment, information, self-help, do-it-yourself, fantasy, history, passion etc.
By the way, writing a book provides a source of residual income, provided of course, the book sells. Finally, once you are known as an author, you are looked at differently. You are regarded as someone who gets things done – you wrote and published a book, putting you in a different category.
Only 30% of people who start to write a book ever finish it and get it published.
Why a book on Network Marketing… of all things. Although I spent the last 15 years in the network marketing profession, I like most people, came into it with a lack of knowledge, a lot of skepticism and a closed mindset. I too, had heard all the horror stories about pyramid schemes, scams, and unethical business practices. A ‘take your money and run’ kind of enterprise.
But I trusted the people who introduced me to it and I am so grateful that I did. I quickly learned how lucrative and rewarding the network marketing business model could be, so I made a decision to study it, to do my due diligence, before I made any decision.
I’ll be honest in the beginning I really did not understand it either and there was a lot of mis-information about it at the time. I also found that most people did not fully understand it either. In fact, most people knew less than me and believed the opinions of others without even challenging what was being said. “My friend Bill said it’s a pyramid scheme” without any substantiation, without any logical analysis and without any factual information. This was the reaction I would get on many occasions.
My sister was an inspiration to me. She was the one that introduced me to the network marketing industry, in the first place. She did not expect me to blindly join the business but rather encouraged me to look at it as a profession and to learn from the successful leaders who had already earned millions in the industry. She believed in me and for that I will always be grateful.
Unfortunately her life was cut short by breast cancer and she passed away at the age of 53. She is and always will be my spiritual guide, my best friend, my mentor and my constant motivation. She was the main reason why I wrote the book.
But thanks to her, I did study the profession. I looked at the thriving businesses such as Avon, the number one network marketing company, as well as others (Amway, Herbalife, Mary Kay, etc), to understand why they were successful, were they long-term or short term, who were their leaders and qualifications, what was their vision and mission, how did they reward their distributors, did they provide training and finally did they have quality products and a sound distribution system?
I found that I would follow the same checklist or process with every company I looked at. I would determine the pros and cons for each once. If this process was good enough for me, perhaps it would be worthwhile for others.
So I researched my idea and found that there was a void out there on due diligence. Yes, there were many books on network marketing and how to be successful, but not many on how to do your due diligence and what to consider when deciding to enter the business and select a company that is right for you. And believe me, when I say it has to be right for you, it has to fit with your standards, ethics and interests.
So why did I write this book? Well there were many reasons. As I said, I wrote it primarily because of my sister, my love for her, and her inspiration. I wrote it because it was a challenge, if you consider the statistics I mentioned earlier.
I wrote it because there was a void on this subject. I wrote it because there was so much mis-information out there about the industry, mis-information that confronted me every day that I wanted to de-bunk all the myths and help people understand that it’s another business model worth taking a look at.
I wrote my book to inform, to clarify, to help, and to educate people, so that they would be knowledgeable of the industry and therefore be able to make a well-informed decision. I wrote it to share my own due diligence process/checklist for evaluating a network marketing business.
I wrote it for people who want freedom, more time, increased income and a better lifestyle – and don’t know how to do it.
I wrote it for those people who want more out of life, who desire a rewarding business and a meaningful life based on residual/royalty-type/leveraged income through this business model instead of just trading time for money.
I wrote it for people who wanted a tax break through a home-based business. I wrote it for people who wanted to be in control of their life, and not be controlled by others.
Is my book for you? I think my book is a tool, and we all know that we need tools for many things in life. Is it a tool you need? Maybe.
Do you want to change your life? Do you want to be in control of your life. Do you want one that will make you think, to consider other options in life? Do you want more time freedom? Do you want a tool that is easy to use? Are you interested in or considering a network marketing business?
Then this book is for you. I guarantee, it is simple and straight forward and will lead you to a decision on selecting a network marketing business.
