Stop Selling. Start Doing This Instead.
Most of us are in the selling mindset, whether we are trying to sell our business, a product, an idea or even ourselves.
It is ingrained in us to sell. And of course this impacts how we relate to others.
We are always trying to persuade or coerce the individual to want what we are offering.
This works sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t.
What if we could change the approach we take and get better results?
What if we just changed the way we came across to the customer and put the emphasis on them and not on the product, or service?
Well we can. It’s all about talking ‘value’.
Value is defined “the importance, worth, or usefulness of something.” And I would add that we are talking about value to your prospective customer.
Yes, value.
If you change the way you approach people by explaining the value you are providing or offering to them, then people start to look at you in a different light.
For one thing, it shows that you care about them, not you, by relating to the value you can add to their life.
It means you are explaining the product or service, not in what it does, but what value it is to the individual or, in terms of a social business and giving back to the less privileged.
For example: if I say to someone, that this functional food bar I’m selling is gluten free, non-gmo, comes in 3 flavours and tastes really good, will they buy it from me?
All I have done is describe the product. I have added no value of the product to the potential customer.
But If I say, this food bar will make their life easier, be healthier, help them look and feel better and super convenient while at the same time helping to address childhood malnutrition, would they look at me differently?
Would they listen to me differently?
Yes they would because I’m talking about what they may value in life. You make them feel important.
So the next time you are talking to a potential customer, talk to them about adding value to their life, a solution, through your business.
It will change the outcome for the better. I guarantee it!
