Refurbish and Upgrade Yourself

This past month my husband and I have been doing some renovations of our home, something that has been long overdue.  We finally made the decision to just get on with it and stop putting it off.

This got me thinking about ourselves, our mindset, our capabilities and so on.

Don’t we need to refurbish and upgrade ourselves too?  Of course we do!

Just this past week, there was an article on the newswire that referred to robots taking over our jobs.  It was timely because my husband is reading the book HOMO DEUS by Yuval Noah Harari who refers to the fact that algorithms are starting to replace many of the jobs we as humans currently do.

And Harari surmises that algorithms can do a better job because of all the data it has access to and we as humans will become eventually ‘useless’.

Which means we could soon be out of a job!

Yikes. Well don’t fret, it’s not going to happen overnight but the possibility down the road is still there.  Who really knows what the future will bring.

As Jen Sincero says in her book, You Are A Badass Every Day, “when you succumb to fear, you are under the illusion that you can predict the future.”

We can’t succumb to fear.  But we do have to adapt. That is where change and personal development come in.

Constant learning and upgrading throughout our lifetime will be the new normal.  So this means refurbishing and upgrading ourselves on a regular basis.

Many of us do this, already. Technology has kind of forced us, and businesses as well, to either adapt or wither on the vine.

I have done this throughout my life. I have constantly challenged myself and have adapted.

From franchise owner, to corporate executive, to human resources consultant, to real estate investor, to author to business coach to entrepreneur, this all happened because I continued to refurbish and upgrade myself.

So if you have been putting things off or you feel stagnant in whatever you are doing, maybe it’s time for you to refurbish and upgrade yourself.

You will certainly benefit in so many ways if you do.  You’ll gain peace of mind, inner growth, learning, expertise, potential and capability.
