When it comes to money, mindset really does matter.
Carol S. Dweck, Author of Mindset: The New Psychology of Success: How We Can Learn to Fulfill our Potential, says there are two different kinds of mindsets – a fixed mindset and growth mindset. She defines them as:
In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success – without effort. They’re wrong.
In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work – brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. Virtually all great people have these qualities.
When I look at myself, I realize that I have a growth mindset when it comes to money. Perhaps it is because of my farming background. I do know that I am dedicated to hard work, and I love learning…especially about personal and financial development. Plus, I know I am resilient and can overcome any setback. It is something you learn from the farming business.
The growth mindset does not mean you will transform your financial situation overnight. However, if you are willing to make little consistent changes regarding your financial behaviours, commit to continuous personal improvement and learning, and stay the course for the long haul, you will succeed! I know because it worked for me.
I taught myself by reading books and finding mentors to help me along the way. Did I make mistakes? Yes! But I succeeded in growing my finances and investments over the long haul. Growth over the long term is the name of the game, so you can feel secure and not worry about money.
Money is super stressful for millions of people out there…more so in this current economic environment. But, there is a way to get you started on the path to prosperity and freedom. If you work on your growth mindset, I promise you will experience peace of mind because your finances and your life will be in order.
