Is your business stuck in a rut? This unfortunately is a question that is all too common for many of us. Let’s face it, there are many times when we feel like we are doing the same old, same old thing and not getting anywhere.
We are stuck and so is our business.
The fact is being stuck in a rut is an uncomfortable place, isn’t it? We don’t need to do anything different and we stay moving in the ruts that have already been made.
But if we stay stuck too long it can be disastrous! There will be no growth and development in your business, and of course, no excitement.
Getting unstuck in your business is not easy. It takes work. If you have ever been stuck in deep snow or mud, you know it takes effort, sometimes a lot, to get out and get moving again.
So what can we do to get ourselves out of the rut?
Get help.
If you are really stuck you may not be able to see what you need to do. Your vision may be blocked with the day to day things you are doing. You may not have time to really think. So don’t be proud or shy. Lots of us have been stuck and maybe this is the time to get new ideas from your team or your mentor or through on-line research. You can’t do and think of everything yourself.
Change your attitude.
Too often when we feel stuck we may have negative thoughts about what we are doing and even blame ourselves. We may think we are failing in some way and we may even begin to act like a victim. Believe me, these thoughts will keep you forever stuck in a rut. So change it. Remember every step is progress. Be open minded. Take initiative. Be grateful for what you have done, are doing and building. Keep focused on your vision and the daily steps to achieve it.
Be accountable.
Yes, you have to be accountable to your business and to yourself. Can you really say that you are putting in the work everyday to grow the business. What about developing yourself and your team. Are you assessing where you are and where you want to be on a regular basis? How are you tracking your numbers on a daily, weekly, monthly, or even quarterly basis? Being accountable gives you insight to what you are missing and what needs to be done.
Help others.
Helping others is so important as it gets you unstuck on yourself and redirects your focus. You then have a giver’s mentality. How do we help others? Create a team challenge, to develop a competitive spirit so they will grow as individuals. It can be by empowerment and assigning more responsibility, It can be by recognition and reward for what they have done. There are many ways to help others on and off your team, and by doing so, it will come back to you in a positive, motivating way.
Finally, take it to the next level.
The reason you are stuck in a rut is that you are not pushing yourself to take the business to the next level. This may seem obvious, but many people get to a certain point and then don’t know what is next.
Perhaps their business plan did not include it. For whatever reason, if you are stuck in a rut, you are not asking yourself, “what is the next level I want and need to achieve?”
Getting out of the rut is up to you and it starts today. So take the steps, book a call with me and I can help you get to the next level.
