How To Conquer Paralyzing Fear

Reading time: minute(s)

Fear does funny things to us if we let it, and that’s why I want to talk about how to conquer paralyzing fear during these uncertain times in our world today.

Paralyzing fear will hold you back as a business owner and prohibit your business from growing and bringing a higher profit.  It will cause you to miss opportunities, fail to invest in profitable situations and even earn less.

So, how do you conquer paralyzing fear?  Everyone deals with fear in a different way, but in my experience as a business coach, I’ve found some fear-beating techniques that really work!

Envision the Worst-Case Scenario

Sometimes, we let our fear get away from us and our imagination starts to come up with all kinds of “what ifs,” which are often worse than reality.  When your fear and worry becomes bigger than the situation itself, it is taking over.

Stop this from happening by envisioning the worst-case scenario. Ask yourself what would happen if your worst fears became a reality. This exercise can help you see that it’s not going to happen.  But no matter what comes along, you know you can handle it, which can put your mind at ease.

Think and Act like a Successful Business Owner

A simple attitude adjustment can make a huge difference when it comes to battling fear.  First of all, adopt an attitude of confidence.  Start thinking and acting like a successful business owner and you’ll be surprised how many habits will become natural.

Making decisions confidently, having a positive outlook, setting goals and assuming your business will be successful are just a few habits.  This can help you stop fear in its tracks. Remember, if you think you can’t accomplish something, you probably won’t.

Differentiate Between Learning Opportunities and Failure

What exactly is failure?  Is it losing a customer, making a bad decision or becoming a less profitable business?  Sometimes we put too much weight on the word “failure” and use it to describe bumps in the road or just a small setback.

If you learn to look at these smaller issues as learning opportunities, and reserve the term “failure” for catastrophic situations that are unlikely to happen, you will be much more confident.

We all make mistakes and they come with the territory.  But, the important thing is that you don’t let them defeat you and learn from them, finding new ways to benefit your business.

Have a Plan in Place

Knowing you have a backup plan in place can give you a lot of peace of mind. Take time to think through different situations or what your “plan B” will be if something falls through.

One of the best things about this strategy is that it lets you think through different situations when you aren’t in the heat of the moment. You will be able to think more clearly and strategically when you aren’t panicked after an opportunity didn’t work out.

The thought of starting an online business can be daunting, but letting fear take over isn’t productive.  Plus, it doesn’t let you live life to its fullest and enjoy your business, family and passions.

All of these tips can help you conquer paralyzing fear, so it doesn’t take over.  So, let’s talk about how I can help you overcome fear by having a strategic plan in place.
