With everything that is going on right now, many of us can be very fearful of what lies ahead. And if we are fearful, then we start thinking and assuming bad things are going to happen to us.
It is quite normal to think negatively and in fact we generally have more negative thoughts per day than we do positive ones. As research shows, of the 12,000 – 60,000 thoughts we have in a day, 85% are negative and 95% are repetitive – so we keep thinking about the same negative thoughts over and over!
I would say that one of the biggest thoughts we have is the fear of the unknown.
This fear can cause a lot of stress in us and affect how we look at life. So I want you to think differently as we approach a new year, to change your mindset, and to look at embracing the unknown in a positive way.
Why? Because then you will be able to deal with the uncertainty that exists in your life, reduce your self imposed stress, and not stay stuck with things in your mind that may never come true.
Let’s talk then about how to deal with the unknown. What can we do to embrace it rather than fear it? Well here are 3 things that I consider when there are unknowns in my life.
First of all, I understand that challenging things and obstacles are part of life.
They make us grow as an individual. They are not going to go away. So the sooner you look at the unknown as just another challenge the better you will be able to deal with it. I’ve always believed that challenges and obstacles make us grow as a person and actually transform us for the better.
“How can you know what you’re capable of if you do not embrace the unknown.” – Esmeralda Santiago, Author and Actress
When I first started out as an entrepreneur, I had no idea what I was doing or where I was going. There were so many unknowns. Would I make it? Would I be successful? What is it that I am going to even do?
But I pushed through the fear of the unknown to become a successful business owner, real estate investor, network marketing professional and most of all, to be a role model of integrity for my kids, family, customers and my team.
Secondly, unknowns make me think.
To take time to look at, and even consider my vision in life and what I have been doing up to now. It makes me reflect, revise and even revamp myself as I deal with unknowns.
Every year at this time, I look at where I am in life, what has been accomplished and what I need to do. This may mean revising my vision board, reviewing my goals for the year, assessing the unknowns, talking to my team members and developing new plans or revising my current plans.
By doing this I become more invigorated to deal with the unknowns. I look back on the first vision board I ever made and it was full of so many unknowns about my life.
But guess what – many of the things on my board have come true, from my lifestyle, to my little red sports car, to living in Italy, travelling the world and so on. It was all unknown to me as to how it would happen but it happened because I was positive and never gave up.
Lastly, with unknowns I take action.
Sitting back and staying idle when there are unknowns in my life, is not the answer. I am not going to sit and wait for it to happen to me, I am going to make it happen. I am going to be in control even if there are unknowns. That means implementing the actions steps in my plans and moving forward.
When I decided to get into network marketing, I took a leap of faith. It was a business model that was totally foreign to me, yet my second brain, (my gut) told me this was an unknown worth pursuing. So I did, I embraced it and I have never regretted that decision nor ever looked back.
So as 2021 rolls in, embrace the unknowns, be positive about the challenges and obstructions in your life, work on your vision, goals and plans and take action to transform your life. You will never regret it.
“Embrace the chaos. Embrace the unknown. The most amazing and transformative times in your life are the unexpected ones. The ones you did not plan and the ones you did not think were going to make a big difference in your life.” – Suzanne Wagner, Psychic and Author
