We all know that having the right mindset is key to success in anything we do and anything we approach in life. It is essential to our health, our business and our relationships.
But do we ever assess our mindset or do we take it for granted?
Is it something we just let happen or do we have to work on it?
Is it something that goes up and down like a yo-yo or is it constant, weathering all storms?
I believe that we have all met people who are at different ends of the spectrum with respect to mindset.
Some are always negative, some are always positive and some are in between, reacting to whatever happens in their life to change their mindset. Note I said ‘reacting’.
Their mindset is driven by what happens to them, rather than their mindset drives what happens to them.
So let’s talk about two mindsets – abundance and scarcity.
What describes an abundance mindset?
In simplest terms, it is a belief that there is more than enough for everyone. It is a deep inner sense of personal worth and security.
“True abundance isn’t based on your net worth, its based on your self worth.” – Gabrielle Bernstein, Speaker, Life-coach, Author
Now a scarcity mindset, is the belief that there will never be enough, which leads to a deep inner sense that you are not worthy.
“Scarcity mindset measures out life by the ounce; it always concludes that needs outweigh the resources.” – Erin M. Straza, Speaker and Author
So, which category do you fall into?
ABUNDANCE | SCARCITY |
More than enough for everyone – thinks big | Never enough for everyone – thinks small |
Sets you free | Imprisons you |
Master of your life – positive and courageous | A slave to your life – fear, stress, anxiety, envy |
Takes risks – gets out of comfort zone | Plays it safe – stays in comfort zone |
Belief in one’s potential to grow and expand | Lack of belief in oneself – never reaches potential |
As a young girl growing up on a farm, I developed an abundance mindset early in my life.
Why? Because it was paramount to being successful with farming. Our family believed in farming, in ourselves, in determining our future, in taking risks, building assets and in expanding our abilities.
This mindset has stayed with me throughout my life and ensured that I was always positive even when there were setbacks. It became the opportunity to be courageous and to grow and expand.
You have a choice as to what mindset you have. You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your mind and your emotions.
“Life is 10% of what happens to you, and 90% of how you react.” – John Maxwell, Author, Speaker, Pastor
So make the decision to have an abundance mindset every day.
By doing so, great things will begin to happen for you and your life will be more fulfilling in all areas – personal, business, spiritual, emotional and physical.
“Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into.” – Wayne Dyer, Philosopher, Speaker, Author
