Why & Perseverance

This past weekend I had the opportunity to hear from two amazing speakers at our Impact convention.

The first one, spoke about how he had completed the 1000 mile Iditarod Trail Invitational Race on foot.

Most of us know of this race as an Alaskan sled dog race, but it can be done on foot. This individual won the race taking him over 26 days to complete it in the most frigid, brutal and dangerous conditions.

And it took him the physical courage and mental fortitude to overcome the heartbreak of two failed attempts to go back the third time and win the race.

“This year I was all in. I had to dig deep and find ways to keep going. I worked really hard training on trail, I’ve been mindful in meditation, not trying to do the math and not thinking about how far I’d come and far I have to go, but just to be in the moment, just thinking about my goal for each day,” – Pete Ripmaster, 2018 Iditarod Trail Invitational Champion

The other speaker, a colleague and good friend of mine, spoke about her health challenges as a young girl growing up in a small town. She talked about how she made a conscious, life changing decision at an early age to overcome those challenges.

As a result, she became an accomplished medical professional, a superb athlete, a respected author and a gifted international speaker.

“I learned from my own struggles with health challenges, language barriers, starting a practice from scratch, and dedicating my life to continual growth and personal improvement, that we can all design a life that is intentional.” – Dr. Nathalie Beauchamp, Wellness Expert, Speaker, Author

I realized that both of these speakers had two qualities that are essential to success:

A strong ‘why’ and an unrelenting ‘perseverance’.

You see you cannot have one without the other.

If you don’t have a strong why to accomplish something you won’t persevere at it until you succeed – you will give up.

And you will not persevere at something unless you have a strong why to keep you going through the pain – you will give up.

They go together like Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, hand and glove, bread and butter, gin and tonic, salt and pepper. . .

Both of these speakers had such a strong why that they did not give up when the going really got tough.

They both persevered.

So to get to where you want to go in life, you must have a strong why and an unrelenting perseverance.

In my case, my why is to be a successful purpose driven entrepreneur so I can lead by example and be a role model for my kids.

This makes me jump out of bed every day.  It keeps me focused on the destination, but also on doing the daily things that will get me there.  The secret is to break things down into bite size chunks to succeed.

It has driven me to develop multiple sources of residual income, amass notable real estate assets, become a respected author, business trainer, and a successful network marketing business leader.

Would I have done all of this if I did not have a strong why and unrelenting perseverance?

No. Never!

So is your why strong enough to make you persevere to accomplish what you want in life?  So, tell me your why and how you have persevered – I’d love to hear from you!
