Is This Business Model Right For You?

Reading time: minute(s)

Many people jump into network marketing without really thinking if this type of business model is right for them.

The story goes something like this.

They are confronted by a friend or family member who tells them that it would be good for them, that it is easy, that it  a side business to their current job and that it is a way to make additional money in the ‘nooks and crannies’ of the day.

So they join up and soon they are frustrated.  It is not easy, they face rejection, they take it personally, and they give up.  This story is played out over and over again.

I know. It happened to me.

A family member introduced me to it and wanted me to join using the arguments above.  The difference was I did my due diligence first, so that I knew exactly what I was getting into.

I even discussed it with my husband, who gave me the support I needed, because if you don’t have the support of your spouse, you probably are not going to succeed with this business.

So why would a network marketing business model be right for you?

Do any of the following apply to you:

  1. You want to be an entrepreneur and have your own business.
  2. You want to make additional money – for many reasons.
  3. You want a home based business and the tax benefits it provides,
  4. You want a flexible schedule and more control of your time.
  5. You want a low financial outlay and a quick return of your investment (ROI).
  6. You want a purposeful, impactful business – good for people, good for you.
  7. You want to get started now!

So if these interest you and apply to you, then the model may work for you.  But you still have to do your own due diligence and understand that not every network marketing business is a fit for you.

That is why I wrote a book on just that – doing your due diligence on getting into network marketing.  It requires a lot more research than people think.

First of all, you have to believe in the products or service the business sells or offers.  If purpose and impact are important to you, then does the company have a give back program or social cause that it contributes to?

You also have to understand what is expected of you in doing this business:

  1. You have to see the product or service.
  2. You have to be able to deal with rejection.
  3. You have to follow the process.
  4. You have to use the tools.
  5. You have to attend training and company events.
  6. You have to build both team members and customers.
  7. You have to understand that it take time to build any business to the size you want.

So let’s not assume that starting a business is easy. It is not.  It takes effort, commitment, and work. But the network marketing model definitely has certain benefits over other models, such as manufacturing, retailing, franchise or distribution and the potential for residual income.

Does it meet your needs – well that is up to you.
