Don’t Let These Hurdles Get in The Way

Reading time: minute(s)

As an entrepreneur and home based business owner, do you feel like you are jumping over hurdles most days?

I know, I certainly was and it’s sure doesn’t make it easy.

Today, let’s talk about them, so you can deal with them head on and be more productive and get better results.

Complacency

If you’ve been running your business for some time, it is easy to get stuck in a trap of complacency.

The problem with complacency is that it holds you back.

Even, if things are going well, chances are they could be even better and more lucrative.  Why settle for less when a little more effort could improve your situation even more?

For me, the best thing to do was to get with my success coach and go over my accountability system to ensure I was meeting my daily productivity goals.

Pressure

While a sense of urgency, ambition and drive are healthy, don’t overdo it and cause unnecessary pressure within yourself or for your team. A cool head and methodical decisions and actions are essential to running a successful business.

At times, I know I felt rushed to make decisions and seemed to be under pressure.  So, I would take a step back and reevaluate things, look at my priorities in business and in life and then refocus to relieve some pressure.

Limited Time

It’s no secret that running your own business takes a lot of time. This is especially true as you get things off the ground and then continue to work towards creating passive income to support the lifestyle you desire.

All business leaders sacrifice time at different stages as their business grows, and sometimes it is just a matter of making the time in your schedule.  One of my suggestions is to create time blocks and then stick to them.

But, if you find you are constantly trying to keep up and aren’t able to achieve a healthy balance between your work and personal time, you need to make some changes.  It could be delegating tasks, outsourcing, prioritizing projects, just to name a few.  You’ve got to regain control of your valuable time.

Fear

I’ve blogged before about how fear can be extremely detrimental to your business.  Whether you are afraid of failure, to try new things, to change the way you run your business or take on new opportunities and challenges, you aren’t doing yourself any favours.

Of course, you do need to think strategically and make the right decisions for your business. However, you should never base decisions solely on fear. When you conquer fear you will open doors to ultimate freedom, making this career path even more rewarding.

Outdated Practices

No matter what kind of business you run or what kind of industry you work in, you have to stay up to date with current trends, new technologies and changing markets.

If you continue to run your business on outdated information or practices, you will quickly fall behind and even reach a point where your business isn’t financially stable.  We can’t run our businesses like we did in the 90’s, it’s a whole new world out there.

Stay in the game by keeping up to date on your industry, attending conferences, participating in trainings and make sure to build a culture in your team based on core values and best practices.

Lack of Leadership

Strong leaders help teams reach their goals and continually take businesses to new levels, bring more opportunities for growth.  A lack of leadership can hinder your business to the point that it can have a negative effect on your profit.

Good leaders listen to the people they lead, think strategically, aren’t afraid to make decisions and constantly have the businesses’ best interest in mind. These skills take time and practice to develop, but by adopting some habits you can become a more effective leader to the benefit of your team and business.

All of these hurdles can really affect your success, but when you don’t let them get in your way, your business will have a rock solid foundation and more room for growth.

In my coaching practice, I help entrepreneurs and business owners get over these hurdles, so absolutely feel free to reach out to me here.
