With every business, no matter what it is, there are certain things that are so basic and so important, maybe even so vital, to the success of the business. So are you doing your ABC’s?
Let’s get to it, so that you can start to apply these each and every day.
First, is to be Accountable.
This means being responsible for your business, your actions, and your mistakes. It means fulfilling your obligations and not making excuses.
“Accountability breeds response-ability.” – Steven Covey
I wrote about the ‘no excuses’ attitude last week and that means being accountable to your goals and actions. Otherwise, you just dabble in your business and in your life.
I get so turned off when I’m dealing with a business and they make excuses for their lack of customer service. I bet you are turned off too. And as a business owner/entrepreneur, you will also turn off customers and clients if you respond in the same non-accountable way.
Just last week, delivery of my product to a customer was screwed up by the distributor and mail system. What normally takes a couple of days, had not happened for over a week. I made numerous phone calls to the distributor to track down the delivery all to no avail. So did I give up and blame others?
No, I asked for an urgent replacement order and when that was also delayed, I sent my customer the product directly from me by overnight courier. Why? Because I am accountable.
So be accountable. Walk the extra mile, do whatever it takes to right the ship, to correct the error. Your customer will recognize this attribute very quickly and appreciate your ‘accountability.’ And most importantly be accountable to yourself if you want to build the life you say want.
Next is to Believe.
You have to believe in yourself, your business, your service, and your products.
“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” – Theodore Roosevelt
You have to be all in, not partially, not with one toe, but will both feet! If you aren’t, then why are you even in the business?
Just last week, an individual told me that her business didn’t succeed because she did not believe in the products. You cannot promote something if you don’t believe in it.
Listen, clients and customers can detect right away if you believe in what you are doing. If you are not speaking from the heart (which indicates you truly believe), they know and they will opt out.
So you have to believe every day.
Lastly is Consistency.
Be consistent in how you do your business. This means doing certain things when you really do not feel like doing them. It means doing the same things every day. Most people struggle with consistency.
You have to be disciplined, you have to feel worthy, to be consistent.
“It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, it’s what we do consistently.” – Tony Robbins
So true! We do not become better by doing something ‘once in a while.’ I don’t become a good or even great speaker by speaking once in a while. I don’t become good at social media if I use it only once in a while.
Don’t be a “once in a whiler”!
All of the success and business coaches that I have learned from, talk about the importance of consistency in your life and business. I have taken that guidance and direction to develop a daily mode of operations (DMO) for myself that I apply every day.
This keeps me consistent and focused. And I become better at what I do from being consistent.
So those are my ABC’s. Let’s keep it simple and work on the action plan every day.
I know that when I apply these three every day, my business continues to grow and flourish.
