Even with a super busy summer, I made sure to take some time for learning. It was time to re-invent myself, celebrate successes, re-define my goals, and review my life plan. I have always valued education as not something just for children, but something that must be continued throughout our lives.
Looking back, it was in my early 20’s when I began to truly appreciate learning and what it could mean to my success. During my first business venture as a franchise owner, I attended a workshop put on by a motivational speaker. At that time, you were completely immersed in this environment of learning from early morning to late at night! While it was exhausting, it was also motivational and fulfilling. Totally excited about all that I had learned, I was determined to put into practice my new found knowledge.
I have to thank my business partner for dragging me to that workshop because it was from then on, that I realized I had a deep desire to continue learning to better my skills and better my life…and to help others do the same. This is when I first became a learning machine!
So, why do some people get ahead in their lives while others continue to live in mediocrity? According to recent research, the people that get ahead do one major thing differently – they deliberately practice new skills and become good at them to get the best results.
As Brian Tracy, motivational speaker legend talks about in Success Magazine, “every successful person has had to persist and overcome adversity and develop their skills.” He says, “seek out top people, do what they do and become a master at it. This is how you better yourself in both business and personal life.”
Even last week this was evident when my Evolv team and I hosted a workshop led by my good friend, Peggy McColl, expert in personal and professional development and a New York Times Best Selling Author. The turnout was fantastic and as I observed the participants, I could easily see their amazing hunger to learn from a Master Manifester.
A couple of my great summer reads are Delivering Happiness by Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos and Leaders Without Titles by Robin Sharma. I highly recommend adding them to your library! I am an avid reader of Darren Hardy’s, Success Magazine and I am currently practicing the FieldCenter, an 8 week home study program. When I reflect back on my wonderful life, I know that my deliberate practice has brought me success and a life full of abundance, prosperity, loving relationships, health, happiness and inner peace.
If you don’t want mediocrity and you truly want to live a great life, then take Brian Tracy’s advice – read, listen, continuously learn, and grow!
