First of all, they all have an amazing work ethic.  This means they know how to discipline themselves to stay on task.  And, if they get sidetracked, they know how to get back to it.  The discipline they possess stems from their desire to achieve their dreams.  They know what they want and exactly what they need to do right now to make it happen for the future.  They put themselves in the driver’s seat!

Entrepreneurs may not want to pick up the phone to call another prospect or do another follow-up call, but they do it anyways.  The word, procrastination is not in their vocabulary, instead, they just do it ‘right now’.  They experience fear and doubt like anyone else, but they break through it and don’t let it take over.  They don’t give up on their dreams just because they came across adversity somewhere in their day or week.  They have to be tough on themselves and sometimes be their own worst boss, telling them what to do

Entrepreneurs have the great quality of patience, especially when it comes to building teams.  They know how to train new team members who are experiencing the world of entrepreneurship for the first time.  They understand, that these emerging leaders need to develop their vision and build their confidence up.  Entrepreneurs know as leaders,  their job is to coach and mentor them along the road to success.

One of the things I found most interesting about entrepreneurs who stay on-task, is how remarkably calm they are about their achievements.   This brings along the question, of who mentors Entrepreneurs? They regularly hang out with associates who understand their world and often seek mentorship by those who have come before them.  They are students as much as they are teachers.

For anyone looking to venture into the exciting world of entrepreneurship, know that, it is not complicated, nor is it difficult.  It’s simply, the journey of small steps. So set your goals, immerse yourself into learning about your product or service quickly and make sure to be around people who will support you and your vision.

Number one - Your Vision.  What do you want your life to look like?  Can you see yourself totally free from stress, living life on your terms?  Start a vision board and have it in front of you everyday.  My good friend, Dr. Nathalie Beauchamp, author of Roadmap to Wellness inspired me with her first module on Vision Boards.  Check out her program, it’s so worth it! 

Number two – Your Mission.  Why do you want this?  What is it that makes you wake up early to get it done?  Far too often, people want instant gratification. They give up and are not willing to wait for results to actually come to fruition.  My vision was to get out of the rat race and live off residual income, so I could work on my life plan and make a huge difference in the world.  I believe in the team concept, so I studied and embraced the network marketing model.  This industry is phenomenal because it fosters growth in people, rewards financially, creates a sense of community and moves everyone to being part of something bigger than themselves.

Number three – Your System.  How are you running your business daily, weekly, monthly (even if it is part time)?  The system is the key to you being more effective and efficient in the time frame you have to work on your business.  The system keeps you accountable to your goals and keeps your schedule organized and on track.

I told him that I understand how mind-boggling, and sometimes frustrating, it can be, especially when every independent distributor claims that they have the best company, the best product, the best compensation plan, the best timing, etc. I gave him a few things to look for in a network marketing company and felt that I had answered the question quite well.

Since then however, this question has stayed on my mind. I’ve thought a lot about it and wondered if many others have this same question. Throughout my time in network marketing I’ve found that, often times, people get into this business because a friend asked them to join. But, 95% of the time, the person quits because they were not fully aware of what they were getting into. I have come into contact with so many people who did not take the time to evaluate all aspects of the company they began working with, either because of a lack of business knowledge, or simply because they got so excited and just wanted to get going.

I decided that since this question was weighing heavily on my mind, it must be one that needs a definitive answer. So, I have put together some questions in 6 important categories for you. These are questions that you should ask the company leaders. They will help you evaluate the company, and make an informed decision. By getting these answers, you will feel much more confident that you joined the right company and that they will meet your expectations and align with your values.  

1. Company’s Management Team
    • What is the reputation of the person (partners) at the top? Google their names on your own to find out more.
    • What are the company’s financial strengths and long-term growth plans?
    • What has made them successful in their previous positions and business ventures?

2. Product Offering
    • Is the product mainstream, unique enough, and does it still have “sex” appeal?
    • How does it generate repeat business and is it a consumable product?
    • What is the price point and how affordable is it for your target market?

3. Target Market
    • Is the industry poised for growth?  (for example: the Wellness Industry is into the trillions now)
    • Who is the target customer? Baby boomers, generation X, generation Y?
    • Who is your competition and how will they affect you?

4. Timing
    • What stage of the marketing S curve is it in? Concentration phase is ideal.
    • Are the expansion opportunities global and unlimited?
    • What is your exit strategy – is the business sellable or willable?

5. Compensation Plan
   • How innovative and competitive is the pay plan?
   • How much is required to invest and how long will it take to see an ROI?
   • Is there a leveraging system and duplicatable model to enhance earning potential?

6. Support & Training
   • What kind of training, coaching & mentoring is offered?
   • How open is the communication between corporate and the sales field?
   • What is the opportunity for continuous learning and growth?

List out all the pros and cons and then, once completed, really evaluate how you feel about the business venture. Does it resonate with you? Do you feel more confident about the opportunity, now that you have done your due diligence? Does it get you excited?

If you answered yes to these final questions, then you are ready to make it happen!

The statistics continue to come in and they are staggering - over 80% of the aging population will not have enough savings to have a basic lifestyle during their retirement years. And even more interesting, is that only 1% of the population is classified as wealthy, with 74% of that group being in business for themselves!

All lofty ideas, you think, but how do you do it? 

You begin by saying, “YES!!”  Use your energy and say to yourself, “I am Growing in a BIG BIG WAY!” 

I know it may sound crazy but, if you are already repeating your mistakes and waiting for a different outcome – you’re already doing the insanity thing.  So, just humor me and try it.  Talk to yourself and build yourself up.  Hold yourself accountable.  This translates into confidence.  Be aware of this 24/seven!  Stay the course and work on making your vision a reality. Hang out with mentors and coaches who have gone before you. Learn from their experiences and don’t repeat their mistakes.  Have an accountability partner – it makes it much more fun!

With all of my goals and dreams, these core values are at the forefront. They impact my decisions on a daily basis and, when they do, it is always for the best.
