From Grateful to Great-Full

I’m writing as I’m on my way to Edmonton to see my brother who ended up in the hospital unexpectedly, with a serious health issue. Fortunately with my ‘freedom’ schedule I could just grab a quick flight and be there in a few hours. 

I grabbed my grateful journal just before leaving the house and I’m so glad I did. I read my daily entries from earlier in 2017 and I was inspired by all the great thoughts I had written. I realized that being in a state of gratitude is the real secret to success in life and in business.

It got me thinking about this week’s blog article.

At this time of year, everyone writes about setting goals for the new year.  Whether it is life goals, career goals, personal goals, short or long term goals, we set them with the high hopes of achieving them or parts of them in the next 365 days.

Settings goals is always a good exercise.  But goals are not enough!

So I thought I would write about something different, something more meaningful, something that is vital to achieving goals.  

I want to talk about being Great-Full!  And yes, I did spell it correctly,

What do I mean about being Great-Full?

I’m talking about what is inside of you – your mindset, your attitude, your drive, your why.  It’s about the big picture, your core values and the way you live your life each and every day. Being present, authentic and speaking your truth. It’s about resilience and strength of character.

To be Great-Full means that you are great inside – that you have self-confidence, that you have a positive mindset, that you feel you can achieve anything, that you are grateful for everything you have, that you know who you are, and what your purpose in life is.  It is so much more that just being grateful.

Are you full of this? 

Or are you full of negativity, self-doubt, aimlessness, lack of confidence, and/or inferiority? If you are, then setting goals is fruitless.

You know, we take life for granted. 

How many of us have experienced sadness during the holidays, that makes us wake up and realize that life is short. Sickness and/or death of loved ones is all too frequent at this time of year.  My brother’s illness which he is still dealing with, is a very timely example.  

So we have a choice on how to lead our life.  We can choose to wallow in self-pity, or we can choose to be Great-Full.

I chose to be Great-Full a long time ago, when I was a young girl growing up on the family farm, with very little.

And I am so grateful that I did, because not only did it change my life, my perspective, my outlook, but it also made me resilient enough to get me through the difficult times.

And believe me, there will always be difficult times.

So if you do anything at the beginning of the new year, make a decision to be Great-Full for the rest of your life!

“Always keep in mind, that your resolution to be ‘Great-full’ is more important than anything else.”
